Last week marked World Cancer Day and if you follow ESC Twitter, you will have seen the ESC’s call for EU policymakers to pay greater attention to cancer comorbidities, in particular the high risk of cardiotoxicity following cancer treatments. The ESC was responding to the European Commission’s consultation on the Beating Cancer Plan, launched at a high-level event in the European Parliament on World Cancer Day. The ESC is calling for the EU to:
Recognise cancer comorbidities, especially CVD, as a central component of the EU Cancer Plan
Involve the cardiovascular community in preparation of the EU Cancer Plan
Support research on cancer and cardiovascular comorbidities under the EU Cancer Mission
You can read the full response in the advocacy section of the ESC website.
Finally, more than 180 leaders and future leaders in cardiovascular medicine have confirmed their attendance for this year’s ESC Spring Summit. It’s going to be a fantastic event! If you haven’t done so already, you can review the agenda and logistical arrangements on the Spring Summit page.
Best wishes,
Prof. Jose Luis Zamorano and Prof. Franz Weidinger
